How NPDESPro builds new solutions

Our user lead approach

At NPDESPro, we couldn’t be prouder of our solution. Set in motion by a professional engineer with decades of experience, the concept for NPDESPro has grown steadily over the years to encompass not only the minimum control measures (MCMs) as outlined by the EPA, but more. Now in its third version, NPDESPro is beyond grateful for those that have helped us get here. No other stormwater management solution understands better than us the responsibilities that SWQ professionals have, which is why when it comes to building a new solution, we look to them to help guide us.

Solution development at NPDESPro starts with the MS4s who use the application daily. Our team relies heavily on their feedback to develop the features they need in their pursuit of NPDES compliance, and ultimately, clean water. While we often joke that software solutions are never finished, the sentiment couldn’t be truer. Though there is never a shortage of ideas, our annual development roadmaps are prioritized based on MS4 need. We believe this process is what instills trust in our current users, and confidence to jump onboard in prospective users.

Open channels of communication

Our team works hard to maintain partnerships with users so that they are able to reach out with suggestions anytime. During business hours, we are only an email or a phone call away. We have heard time and time again that our commitment to customer service and willingness to listen is what makes us stand-out among competitors. Beyond that, NPDESPro encourages survey participation and hosts quarterly user group meetings. These meetings provide an opportunity for teams to ask questions, learn new features, and provide feedback. Agendas typically include a look at NPDES permit requirements, application use Q&A sessions, module highlights, and more. It is practices like these that ensure we are able to accurately prioritize feature developments.

Behind the scenes

The creation and release of new solutions requires a significant amount of planning and coordination. Larger releases, such as our Good Housekeeping  module released earlier this year, are sometimes anticipated for years. As soon as a new feature or module is released, ideas for building it out more begin. So, even though software is never finished, our team is always excited to release a feature that we know is going to improve the lives of our users.
